My first performance art piece in Malaysia: Lost Sock.
The sound doesn't kick in until about 5 minutes, but I preface this with the following:
"I'm dropping the curtain a bit," I started. This is an installation art piece that I decided to perform in Malaysia as a live performance. I went on to ask the audience to think about stories that they've experienced about loss.
To choose to travel around the world for a year means that many of us had to lose a lot of other things. Maybe we had to lose our possessions, houses, pups, in some cases jobs and even relationships.
Then I asked someone to share their story with me. I explained that I would use their words to create a visual improvisational movement.
There was a moment where I thought I might have to tell a story myself and as the entire work is meant to be improvisational, I was ready to do just that. Then—in Hunger Games style—Jen Dienst jumped up as a volunteer.
A huge thank you to Jen for sharing her story with us in the performance space and with the interwebs.
